Course information

Birds Hill Park (overall course map | race campus map)

Birds Hill Park is a great place for triathlons! Our safe, accessible, and beautiful course provides an excellent experience for athletes of all levels.

Safety first

Severe weather or other conditions that cause unreasonable safety risks may force race officials to modify or cancel events.

For example, unsafe swimming conditions may result in a shortened swim course or changing the race to a duathlon.

Transition (map)

Transition is located on the grassy area on the west side of the East Beach parking lot.

Always remember to put your helmet on BEFORE you touch your bike and don’t take it off until AFTER your bike is racked. This is very important for safety. Race officials are watching out for it!

Swim (map)

The swim course is in Birds Hill Park Lake, with the start at East Beach.

We have a standing start. Athletes swim one loop of their assigned distance.

The man-made, spring-fed lake is shallow (about 2 m at the deepest), with a gentle slope and sand bottom.

The course is well-marked with buoys and supervised by lifeguards.

Volunteers paddle alongside swimmers to guide them safely from start to finish.

Bike

Age 8-15 (map)

The bike course is a rolling 5 km loop with sections of forest and open meadow.

Athletes age 8-11 cycle one loop; athletes age 12-15 cycle two loops.

The course starts at the NE exit of Transition. Athletes cycle up Festival Drive, turn right at the intersection of South Drive, cycle down South Drive for about 1.5 km, then turn around and return along the same route.

The course is not closed to vehicle traffic. Volunteers provide guidance and traffic control along the course.

Age 6-7 (map)

For the 6-7 age group, the bike course is 1.3 km. Athletes cycle from Transition through the parking lot to the Lakeside Trail intersection. There, they turn right on Lakeside Trail and cycle to the east end of the lake, where they turn around and return along the same route.

Volunteers are stationed at key points to guide athletes in the right direction.
