Triple Threat Birds Hill Park Race

NOTE: ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSED. WALK UPS STILL ACCEPTED ON RACE DAY.

Only a few more days until race day! We are excited to be hosting the 2024 Age Group World’s Qualifier for the Olympic Triathlon Distance in Malaga, Spain. Be sure to complete your Expression of Interest to be considered.

The forecast is looking really good, but for those of you who are still on the fence, take a look at TriManitoba’s video from last year’s event to get motivated.

We’d like to thank all our sponsors for supporting the race, in particular Olympia Cycle & Ski (St. Mary’s Road location) for being our on-site bike mechanic, and City Park Runners for donating a new pair of shoes as a prize (up to $200 value). Our sponsors and volunteers are our most valuable partners in ensuring we can put on a well-run event.

Another Training Camp is over :(

This year we mixed it up and headed to Wilderness Edge in Pinawa for training camp. We arrived on Friday night, and sat down to an introduction to camp, followed by some games.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early for a shake out run, followed by a long bike ride. (Some of us went longer than others).      A couple of members decided a quick dip into the river was called for.

After lunch, there was restorative yoga. Some may have fallen asleep.

There was an afternoon hike to the dam …

… and then bike maintenance with Coach Tom.

Saturday night we had a healthy competition of Family Feud, Triple Threat style.

We finished off Sunday with a long run, stopping for a picture at the suspension bridge. Breakfast was at the Pinawa Golf Club, and then we heard from our speaker, Stephanie Roberecki.

It was a great opportunity to get in some workouts, get to know each other better, and have a lot of fun. I’m already looking forward to next year’s camp!

Team building and giving back

Triathlon is a small community, and if you’re part of it, it’s important that you give back. There are so many ways you can participate – if you’re not racing, volunteer. Become an official. As a team, Triple Threat decided to branch out beyond the triathlon community, and has started supporting road running in Manitoba. Last fall we volunteered at a water station for the WFPS Half Marathon, and earlier this month, we joined volunteers from Corrections Manitoba at a water station for the WPS Half Marathon and relay.

We had fun, the runners appreciated it, and we met a group of like-minded volunteers. Sounds like a win-win-win to me!

Moving outdoors

Our indoor track and Zoom bike practices are over, and we’re moving outdoors. Check your email for location, time and day for outdoor running and cycling workouts. Swimming will remain indoors until the end of May. Hope to see you at a practice or two!

No Track March 15, 2023

Max Bell is unavailable tonight, so don’t show up for track practice! Coach Tom will be doing an extra long strength session, so check your email for the Zoom link.

Track Practice February 15 cancelled

This week’s track practice has been cancelled, due to a track meet at the field house. Coach Tom has put in a workout for Wednesday that you can hopefully do at another indoor track, like Dakota Fieldhouse, or outside if this nice weather holds.

See you  next week at the track!

Time for fun!

Hey Triple Threaters, on top of training, it’s time to have some fun! Your Board of Directors has put together several events, some coming up quite soon. And if you’re not a member, go ahead and register so you can join us!

Friday, January 27 – Spin class at Saikel

Saturday, February 4 – Banff Mountain Film Festival

Monday, February 13 – Cross country skiing with instruction from member Jerry Buckland

Monday, February 20 – Louis Riel Day “open water” swim at Pan Am pool

Sunday, May 7 – Aid station for the WPS half marathon

May 12 – 14 – Training Camp!!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the events!

Holiday workouts

Our swim workouts have ended for the year, but they’ll be back on January 7th at Boni-Vital pool. Attendance at the swim is almost as good as at the track! Let’s see if we can beat it!

Max Bell is available Dec. 28th – make sure you respond to Coach Tom and let him know if it’s worthwhile to have a workout that day. And of course, Zoom is always available for the bike. It’d be great to work off some of that holiday food.

And the executive has some ideas coming up for a New Year’s get together!

Time trial coming up

As we approach the holidays, we come to the end of our track season for 2022. As usual, Coach Tom is encouraging us to complete a 5k time trial so we have a baseline pace. For some reason, 5k on the track is a lot different than 5k outside.

2022 Annual General Meeting

It’s that time of year again, when we review what happened last year and look forward to the new year. Make sure you complete your registration so you can vote. The meeting will take place after track practice. There will be food!
