Training Camp!

We’re off to Falcon Lake for our annual training camp. Looking forward to some trail runs, a long bike, yoga and time in the hot tub to recover! No open water swimming just yet. The weather looks like it will cooperate as well.

Summer Membership

Are you ready for in person racing this year and haven’t found  a team to train with yet? Triple Threat offers summer membership for the months of April to August. There will be a few more workouts at the track at Max Bell before we start running outdoors. Biking will continue on Zoom for a few more weeks also, until the roads are cleaned up. Swimming continues until the end of May at the Active Living Centre at the University of Manitoba.

Receive your workouts through Training Peaks and train with our team. Register here.

Open water swimming techniques – in February??

This coming holiday Monday, February 21st, at 9:30am, we will be hosting our open water techniques and simulation session in the training tank at Pan Am Pool.  You will have to pay for your own entry to the facility and be a current member of the team.

We’ll be working on open water swimming techniques, with lots of drills and group work.  Sighting, goggle adjustments, drafting and race starts will be some of the things covered.

Because we do not have lanes reserved for this session, it is a fun mad scramble to secure two lanes for the team right as the pool opens, so arrive early and be prepared for a quick transition!  You must have proof of vaccination to enter the facility and don’t forget to bring a mask to wear right until you get into the pool.  No special equipment is required, but if you have a flutter board or pull buoy, bring it along as we may make use of it for sighting drills.

Back to in person workouts

We’ve been extremely cautious during the Omicron outbreak and paused on in person workouts at Max Bell and the pool. But now they’re back. Starting Wed., Feb 2nd, we will meet at Max Bell for track from 6:00 – 7:30. Sat., Feb 5th is the first day for swimming at the Active Living Centre from 1:30 – 2:30. Watch your email for full details.

And here’s some of the activities we were doing over the holidays.

Track Time Trial Coming up

Only one more week of practice before our 3k or 5k time trials at the track. This week it was 800 m repeats; next week it’s 1k. My legs are tired just thinking about it.

Swimming is back on for Dec. 4th. Watch your email for the location of the next long run on Sunday. If you have any special requests for a location, please let Kate know.

This week in bike news …

This is what virtual biking looks like. We had a great crowd last Thursday, but there’s always room for more! Unfortunately, it also means my bike is set up in my living room for the season. On the bright side, it means I get more workouts done!

Reminder there is no swimming November 20th, and it looks like November 27th will be cancelled as well. Darn those swim meets!

This week’s long run is at King’s Park. Meet in the large parking lot at 8:30. Our long runs are open for anyone, but if you plan on joining, please email Kate  so we know to wait for you.

Changes to Swim Practice

Please note that this week’s swim (November 13th)  will be from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. instead of 1:00 – 2:00.

There is no swimming on November 20th.

November 27th will also be 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., and then we will return to our regularly scheduled 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.  timeslot.

And we’re off!

The 2021-2022 training season starts now! Thanks to Coach Tom for yesterday’s overview of our training plan. If you’re a current team member, you will receive a comprehensive email from President Kate shortly, outlining the plan. If you attended as a guest, you will also receive a comprehensive email with all the details. If you don’t fit under either of those categories, please email triplethreatmembership@gmail.com for more information.

Registration is now live on CCNbikes.com.
