Triple Threat Birds Hill Park Race

NOTE: ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSED. WALK UPS STILL ACCEPTED ON RACE DAY.

Only a few more days until race day! We are excited to be hosting the 2024 Age Group World’s Qualifier for the Olympic Triathlon Distance in Malaga, Spain. Be sure to complete your Expression of Interest to be considered.

The forecast is looking really good, but for those of you who are still on the fence, take a look at TriManitoba’s video from last year’s event to get motivated.

We’d like to thank all our sponsors for supporting the race, in particular Olympia Cycle & Ski (St. Mary’s Road location) for being our on-site bike mechanic, and City Park Runners for donating a new pair of shoes as a prize (up to $200 value). Our sponsors and volunteers are our most valuable partners in ensuring we can put on a well-run event.

Moving outdoors

Our indoor track and Zoom bike practices are over, and we’re moving outdoors. Check your email for location, time and day for outdoor running and cycling workouts. Swimming will remain indoors until the end of May. Hope to see you at a practice or two!

And the race is over!

That’s a wrap for 2022. The Birds Hill Park and Kids of Steel triathlons are over. We hope you had a great time participating. We certainly had fun hosting it.

A few things were left behind – two pairs of goggles and a pair of arm warmers. If they’re yours, please contact me so we can get them back to you.

Now it’s off to Montreal (for some) for the World Triathlon Championship Series or St. Malo for the second triathlon in Manitoba. Good luck to all the competitors!

Open water swimming techniques – in February??

This coming holiday Monday, February 21st, at 9:30am, we will be hosting our open water techniques and simulation session in the training tank at Pan Am Pool.  You will have to pay for your own entry to the facility and be a current member of the team.

We’ll be working on open water swimming techniques, with lots of drills and group work.  Sighting, goggle adjustments, drafting and race starts will be some of the things covered.

Because we do not have lanes reserved for this session, it is a fun mad scramble to secure two lanes for the team right as the pool opens, so arrive early and be prepared for a quick transition!  You must have proof of vaccination to enter the facility and don’t forget to bring a mask to wear right until you get into the pool.  No special equipment is required, but if you have a flutter board or pull buoy, bring it along as we may make use of it for sighting drills.

This week in bike news …

This is what virtual biking looks like. We had a great crowd last Thursday, but there’s always room for more! Unfortunately, it also means my bike is set up in my living room for the season. On the bright side, it means I get more workouts done!

Reminder there is no swimming November 20th, and it looks like November 27th will be cancelled as well. Darn those swim meets!

This week’s long run is at King’s Park. Meet in the large parking lot at 8:30. Our long runs are open for anyone, but if you plan on joining, please email Kate  so we know to wait for you.

Changes to Swim Practice

Please note that this week’s swim (November 13th)  will be from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. instead of 1:00 – 2:00.

There is no swimming on November 20th.

November 27th will also be 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., and then we will return to our regularly scheduled 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.  timeslot.
